Sunday evening on CBC an older sounding guy with a thick east coast accent called in to Rex Murphy's show to talk about the state of politics in Canada. His basic point was that we know Martin routinely breaks promises and we know that under his watch both as finance monister and Prime Minister the Liberal government has lost or given away hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayers' money. So in his words, if we know Martin is a liar and a thief how can we possibly be afraid to give Harper a chance? Can we really do worse than a liar and a thief?
It's an interesting way of looking at it, no?
It is difficult in time when the Liberals are so pathetic to recall that there is worse than pathetic - moronic administrators of government is one that comes to mind.

I fully expected you to be the voice of reason Alan. I probably could have written that comment for you nd saved you the trouble. Thanks for chiming in.

Yes of course we can do worse. The Tories throughout history and throughout the western world have shown consistently their inablity to manage public finances. They also in this incarnation have a moral purpose which would undermine basic rights. I do not expect a politician to tell the truth, though the current liberals are pushing that way too far. I do expect them to manage the books and stay out of the bedroom. Harper has shown nothing to make me think he can do either of those things.
