If you were wondering if Canadian politicians can be bought, yes. Yes they can.
"Belinda Stronach, the millionaire businesswoman who ran for the leadership of the Conservative party in early 2004, has crossed the floor to the Liberal party and will sit in Paul Martin's cabinet as minister of human resources and skills development (emphasis added).
She will also help the Liberals implement the recommendations in the Gomery report when it is delivered later this year, Martin said Tuesday morning."

And good for her... the Cons are a sinking ship. All this talk about what they're against but not one peep about what they're for...
She was too moderate for them anyway - Harper is leading them to political suicide by trying to vote down the budget and waste more money on an election we don't need, possibly setting up the Bloc as official opposition - in a situation that would be another minority at best. Wait till the inquiry is over, press Martin to honor his promise of a January election and see what happens then. Harper is certainly not one to be ragging on her and calling her motives into question as being purely for "ambition". Pot meet kettle... hey kettle, you're black.

And the best part, all she got for selling her credibility was a monkey paw! It only took Volpe what, 6 months? to realise that HRSD is a career killer. Why would Belinda want to be the one on watch when the next billion dollar boondoggle comes along?
