The biggest story in hockey right now is the Washington/New York trade that sent Jaromir Jagr to the Rangers for Anson Carter. Jagr will play his first game for his new team tonight here in Ottawa. Too bad nobody is broadcasting it. That's because Hockey Night in Canada assumes everyone would rather watch the Leafs and the Canadiens play in Montreal. I on the other hand loathe both of those teams so why on earth would I want to watch them? This will be the second week in a row that I wanted to watch the Senators and can't because it's Saturday night and HNIC opted not to pick up the game locally.

At least the Calgary/Tampa Bay game they've been pushing all week will be good. Oh wait, they're only showing that in Alberta and BC. We get the Predators and the Oilers from Edmonton. Yuck.

Thanks CBC. I'll probably watch A Bug's Life on ABC instead.

I understand why they went national with the Leafs/Habs game. I just don't like the fact that as far as I know the CBC has the rights to all games in Canada on Saturdays so nobody else like Sportsnet can show them locally.

Oh well, should I be surprised that the networks cater to the Toronto market?

I have a feeling Jagr still has a standout year or two in him. Is it this year? Not likely, but he still has more points or goals than anyone else on the Rangers. It's not even close- he still averages just under a point per game. If Jagr is washed up what's Sundin, who is 2 points ahead of him after playing in 2 more games?

While I'm as fed up as any Senators fan at HNIC's blindness when it comes to the Senators, Leafs-Canadiens is one matchup I can understand being on nationally. Those two teams appeal to a lot of Canadians (although I share your dislike of the Leafs and usually ignore the early HNIC game and watch the late one).

It's when HNIC shows a matchup similar to Leafs-Penguins over something like Sens-Avalanche that I get pissed.

You missed a good game; another quality installment of The Great Canadian Rivalry. Go Leafs!
Jagr's washed up anyway. He's not worth watching, and NY has made a huge mistake getting him.
