The Next 'Great One'?
Sidney Crosby won QMJHL player of the week award. Who cares, you say? Well, first of all, the 16 year old is a rookie in the 'Q' which is a tough league to play in no matter what your age. Second, he has 9 of Rimouski's 17 goals so far in the season. That doesn't impress you? How about 162 points in 57 games for an American prep school last year, giving him the scoring title by 46 points? No? Still not impressed?
"Sydney Crosby," said Gretzky, the Coyotes' managing partner and part owner. "He's the best player I've seen since Mario (Lemieux). . . . He's dynamite."
That's what Gretzky said when someone asked him if there was anyone that could come along and break some of his NHL records.
Needless to say, the kid was stunned by Wayne's praise. Don't expect it to go to the Cole Harbour native's head though. He seems to be pretty grounded so far. I just might have to take in a Gatineau/Rimouski game to see for myself how good the guy is.
He is absolutely the one and - as he is both a Nova Scotian and playing for Rimouski - the first person 24 years my junion who is an object of my sports fanaticism.
